... and with a vengance! back with pictures of an actual finished project - woo.
the finished denim crazy quilt thingy i made as a "welcome to the world" present (which was technically 2 years late but oh well). as i mentioned before, it's squares made of old jeans, appliqued with crazy critters, each square framed by a (sometimes beaded) different embroidery pattern. bordered with giant ric-rac and backed with a really cute blue patterned flannel.
did i mention before that some of these critters were inspired by my ikea shower curtain?
this was the funnest project i have ever worked on and it is a happy outcome that it is also the project i am most happy with. granted, embroidering through all of that denim was not always a picnic (it was a toss-up - which do i hate more: thimbles or bloody fingers?), it was great fun to find new embroidery patterns to try out and bead it and play to my hearts content.
but with all of those buttons and beads its anything but child friendly. as much fun as i think it is, it's an odd project for me to have invested so much time in. i like projects that serve a useful function - tjochkes (i never know how to spell that) are not my bag, and i do feel a little sheepish about handing over a gift to his parents that falls into the category "don't ask me what you're actually going to do with this sucker".
